Name Your Favorite Food Truck Dish

It’s almost impossible to select a favorite ice cream flavor and even harder to decide what food truck cuisine is the best. With so many options available from LA-area food trucks, it’s tough picking just one favorite. And what do you do about all those unusual offerings when you’re at a food truck court, a concert, a convention or party where several gourmet food trucks are serving cuisine, some of which is totally new to you. How do you find the best dishes?

That’s easy. Ask your food truck operators, the people standing in line and that couple at the next table. An informal food truck court is ideal for checking out your neighbor’s meal and starting up a conversation. Do you love spicy foods? Or do you abhor high-calorie meals? Ask the food truck operators to suggest a delicious but non-fattening offering. The easy-going social life of the food truck court is one of the best things about food truck dining.

Long lines in front of a particular truck are one indication of popular food. If you don’t want to wait, use your smart phone to check out yelp.com, zagat.com or other review sites for feedback from customers on the various trucks at the event and the dishes they offer.

Of course, the best way to find the perfect meal is to order something you already know you’ll enjoy. But don’t be afraid to d sample meals you’ve never considered before, such as Korean rice bowls, Mexican-Chinese fusion, eggplant sandwiches or spicy BBQ.

When you uncover a new favorite dish, don’t be shy. Share your personal review with friends, including those new buddies you’re sure to make at the food truck court.

Typically, food trucks charge more for their offerings than what you’d pay for an average hot dog or taco, but their foods run less than the price of restaurant dining. Accepting credit cards is costly; so many food trucks work only in cash. Taking cash to the food court ensures that you won’t have to order from your second or third choice food truck because you’re only carrying a debit card.
