It’s Spring! Chow Down At A Food Truck Festival

When it’s spring, people think about only one thing: getting outdoors and eating at food trucks, of course. Once the weather warms up, communities of all sizes sponsor food truck courts … or in the case of Seattle, a food truck rodeo … giving citizens plenty of great choices in delicious, creative food.

One of the most famous food truck celebrations is in Seattle at the Mobile Food Rodeo. The annual event runs two days and showcases the offering of approximately 60 food trucks. This is a big change from 2009 when a research group asked consumers their opinions on food trucks and found that 40 percent of respondents didn’t know what they were.

In New York City, the Village Voice hosts an annual food truck even that attracts more than 1,300 people. Set on Pier 86, visitors can nosh at 20 different food trucks and enjoy complimentary beverages. In Troy, N.Y., the second annual Food Truck Festival of NY was held recently at River Front Park. Unlike some festivals that charge an entrance fee, this event was free. A farmer’s market is also held at the same time.

Most festivals feature good music, as well as good food. In Conyers, Ga., food trucks serve up novel brews and high-end foods along with a full day of music provided by local bands.

In Arlington, Texas, half way between Dallas and Fort Worth, the annual Texas Food Trucking Fest offers foodies two days of noshing to live music. There are even planned activities to keep the little ones occupied. A percentage of the festival’s proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

In San Bernardino, cutting-edge culinary dishes from food truck chefs attract visitors to the Route 66 Food Truck Festival. With two dozen mobile kitchens on hand, the festival is a mecca for food lovers from throughout Southern California. The event also raises money for a charitable organization.
