How To Throw A Successful Cocktail Party

Have something to celebrate?  Want to entertain a large group of friends at one time? Wish you could travel back in time to the days of Mad Men? All of these are great reasons to host a cocktail party. Here’s how to do it:

Determine the date, time and location and make a guest list.  Most cocktail parties are held in the evening and run no more than three hours. You can invite your guests by phone or email. Be sure your preferred location has plenty of adequate parking.

Decide what drinks you’ll offer and what food you’ll serve. Your guests can’t drink for a couple of hours without consuming some decent munchies. Choose non-messy finger foods, such as mini-quiches, bruschetta, mini-pizza slices with gourmet toppings, cheeses and nuts. For drinks, pick a signature beverage (martini?) and have a pitcher or two made up ahead of time. Remember that some guests may prefer beer or wine.

Buy more ice than you’ll think you’ll need. Running out will put a chill on your party, and you can always save the leftovers for ice tea or lemonade.

Select the party attire and notify guests when you issue the invitation. Dressing up will make your cocktail party more festive. But casual works well too.

Choose your background music. If you don’t have suitable CDs, ask a few friends to bring theirs over. Don’t play anything so loud that it drowns out the conversation.

Ensure a happy ending. If a guest has too much to drink, be sure he or she goes home in taxi or hitches a ride with a sober friend.

Don’t want to handle all these details yourself? Then hire a gourmet food truck to roll up with delicious food, plenty of beverages and a bartender who will ensure that everything runs smoothly. A food truck is a rolling restaurant, won’t mess up your own kitchen, and thanks to professional refrigeration equipment, never runs out of ice.

Three Los Angeles-area food trucks with extensive party hosting experience are The Hungry Nomad (877-NOMAD-10), Greenz on Wheelz (855-6Greenz)or Hang 10 Tacos (855-5-Hang-10).
